Vitakraft Drops Mini Banana & Cherry Flavor Dwarf Hamster, Rat, and Mouse Treat, 2.5 oz, Multi

Great size for Robo hamsters. High quality. Multiple flavors. Smooth texture, slightly grainy. Ingredients appear to be tasty. I garnish Hammy’s food bowl with them to get him to eat daily foods with less palatable ingredients. Works like a charm!

These treats are great, my mice love them, but the problem was that they melted in the summer heat. It’s not the company’s fault they melted. I should have thought of that sooner. But overall great, good price, although little smaller bag than I thought.

With Ecotrition Yogies being discontinued, I was looking to find suitable replacement for my pet rats. Mini Drops by Vitakraft turned out to be a great substitute, albeit not all the same.The most important thing is the fact that my rats like these. When you go further down the list, you'll notice that Yogies makes use of dairy, which doubles as binding agent, whereas Mini Drops seems to use corn starch. This explains why Mini Drops is more resistant to melting than Yogies. Mini Drops appear to make use of much more supplements than Yogies. When I tasted the Mini Drops for the first time, it had that very mildly chalky flavor that I couldn't put my finger across. Then I looked at the ingredients and saw all the vitamin supplements, which immediately made me think of vitamin tablets. The taste was barely there, just enough to get me confused until I saw the ingredient list.As for my opinion on whether the Mini Drops are worthy replacement to Yogies... Yes, I believe so. None of my eight rats showed any reservation in wolfing down Mini Drops. You can feed them a little more per day than Yogies, which might be beneficial if you use them as treats to train your rats.

As someone else mentioned, if you order these (like any baking chip) in the summer then be prepared for most of the drops to be melted together. No worries for me since the drops are so large I had to break them into pieces to be small enough for my robo dwarf hamsters anyway. These drops have a sticky powdery quality to them which sticks to my fingers, which leads my hammies to smell my fingers and think "food! NOM!" It's a big downside for me because I used these as special taming treats when I first got my roborovski hamster sisters, to get the robos to come into my hand and learn to trust me, so it was really difficult to keep the treat residue off the rest of my hands so the girls wouldn't nibble on me.These are basically sugar & fat so they're really not great health wise, but I do think these are good as an occasional treat or as that special taming treat and recommend them for those reasons. Hey, I can't eat a blah fortified diet with no treats, and I personally can't expect my hamsters to, either. Since my robos are tame now and one of the sisters is getting a bit chubby (from me mistakenly giving her unrestricted access to millet sprays, she loves millet too much), I only use these yogurt drops to rub onto wood chew toys that the hammies aren't otherwise interested in - that sticky powdery residue of these drops comes in handy for this use.SIDENOTE: I also have the Kaytee Fiesta strawberry yogurt chips which the robos like just as well, and also leaves a residue on my yummy fingers, but the Kaytee chips have two kinds of partially hydrogenated oils in it as the 3rd & 4th ingredients in the list. Partially hydrogenated oils have trans fats which in humans makes our blood platelets sticky, leading to heart disease - no amount of trans fat is healthy for us humans. I don't know if it has the same effect in hamsters but I'd rather not find out. These Vitakraft drops use palm oil so they do not have trans fats, and I do prefer these Vitakraft drops for that reason.

If you don't want your hamster to get diabetes, take notice at this review. My hamster really likes these treats but she shouldn't eat too many. I know the package says 3-5 treats a day but DON'T do that if you don't want your hamster getting diabetes. Instead, I would recommend 1 treat every one and a half weeks. Otherwise, my hamster loves these treats and thinks they're very tasty.
