What a surprise! Quality pieces and board for the money!!

My sons asked for this to be able to play chess at the park or while driving and I got them the magnetic one. I was very impressed with how great this board is. Worth every penny for real. This is not going to be like any other magnetic chess board you get, this is a quality built item that will last forever. Not a lot of things are truly gift-quality for someone with fickle tastes but this is it.

Actually best item I could ask for in a chess set. If they made a smaller version in the exact same format I would buy. And this set is still compact enough to travel in a backpack for games with friends or in the park. Love the piece design as well.

Pros:- Pieces and board look attractive. They feel smooth without gaps or seams.- Well crafted. The hinges and clasps are high quality.- The board and pieces are sturdy, durable and arrived without defects.Cons:- The foam indentations meant to hold each piece when in storage are mostly sized correctly, but a few of them are too loose. This results in the pieces coming loose when in storage, and falling out of place when opening the board.- The magnets in my set were not consistently oriented during manufacturing. Many of the pieces have inconsistently oriented magnetic poles, causing them to attract or repel each other unpredictably. When placed on the board, the king in my set always pulls itself slightly off-center no matter what square it's placed on.Cons I don't count against this product:- A problem with magnetic chess sets in general is that when moving a piece across the board, it will inadvertently attract other pieces to itself, disrupting play. I don't count this as a flaw in this product for purposes of this review since this is true of all magnetic sets, but after playing with this set for a while, I recommend weighted pieces instead.- A collapsible wooden set like this risks scratching or gouging a wooden table. You have to first open it upside down, remove the pieces from storage, then flip it. The board has no soft pads to protect the board or the table. I always put a hand towel between this board and my wooden table, which is kind of annoying and detracts from the beauty. Flexible mats or more permanent boards don't have this problem.
