Fixed the Problem

We could not figure out why my Mister Buddy heater would not stay lit. We cleaned the thermal couple and it seemed to help for a very short time but the problem persisted. We decided to replace the filter and the heater has been working like it was new. It was a very easy fix.

Who knew propane heaters need a filter?!?!?!

I wish these weren't needed. And I wish it was cheaper...But there's junk and oil in the propane we buy and apparently propane heaters need a fuel filter just like your car need or the small passages get gummed up and the heater won't work when you need it. I learned this the hard way and had to tear my big buddy heater apart and clean it all out. This filter seems to last pretty well, but might get clogged with some kind of dried up crud when they are stored. Last spring I put the Big Buddy heater away for the summer and when I pulled it back out, I couldn't get much heat out of it and determined that the filter was clogged (it was cold to the touch). So I ordered another filter and before the new filter arrived, the heater started working properly again. I assume that whatever is getting filtered out of the propane was hardened up on the filter media and causing a bad restriction. But after some use and exposure to the propane, apparently it softened and the filter started flowing again. So I will keep this one as a spare!

Perfect for Using a bigger tank and hose

Used it as a filter on my buddy heater so I could run an aftermarket hose to a bigger tank. Works well and was a genuine filter. Price was a bit expensive considering I got another one cheaper somewhere else. Does the job of filtering impurities and the flow of propane was like nothing was even on it.

Must-Have Filter for a Clean and Reliable Heater

The Mr. Heater Fuel Filter (F276163) is an essential accessory if you’re using a Big Buddy or Portable Buddy heater with a bulk propane tank. I added this to my setup, and it works perfectly, keeping contaminants out and ensuring smooth, clog-free operation.Propane can carry oil residues that build up over time, especially when using longer hoses. This filter prevents those impurities from reaching the heater’s internal parts, prolonging its lifespan and maintaining efficiency. Installation was quick and simple—just screw it in between the heater and the hose, and you’re good to go.One thing to keep in mind: This filter is NOT needed for 1 lb. propane bottles, only for bulk tank connections. It also needs to be replaced periodically, so it’s good to keep an extra on hand. And here’s a quick joke: Why did the propane filter get an award? Because it always kept things clean under pressure!Overall, the Mr. Heater Fuel Filter is a small but crucial investment for keeping your Big Buddy or Portable Buddy heater running smoothly. It’s affordable, easy to install, and extends the life of your heater, making it a must-have for winter or camping use.

DON'T USE YOUR BUDDY WITHOUT ONE....

After two years of use with using the HIGH pressure/normal hose gas feed system, I modified my gas feed system to power my Portable Buddy heater with a tank regulated LOW pressure, (15 PSI) system.... (Search this ASIN B08Q38VS2Q and read about my "LOW PRESSURE" modification....The pictures tell the story of how much "hose oil" was collected, and stopped from entering my heater and causing problems.... The seven grams = ~ .25 ounces of oil was caught from entering my heater. With my new "low pressure gas feed system" supplying my Buddy with ~ 15 PSI of gas pressure, the filter "may" not be needed, but, using one is cheap insurance to prevent heater clogging and damage.... P.S. I weigh most anything new, and then after some time, measure again to see how much "stuff" was collected. A good way to determine when to replace....

Works great!

I’m assuming it’s doing it’s job just fine. Only had a little issue with heater towards the end of last winter, but nothing that a minimal cleaning couldn’t resolve. & That could have been from dust & pets more then fuel? I did buy the Mr Heater hose originally, but ended up having to go with another brand to be able to share the tank, so I bought this just to be safe. So don’t actually know if it was needed or not, but worth the price for the extra protection. Just bought a replacement for this season, but haven’t put it on yet since it’s working fine & still has a strong bright blue pilot flame. Will probably wait til it starts to dim like it did a little at the end of last season or my next tank change just to be safe. Then I’ll know if it really makes a difference. But I’d definitely recommend this small expense as a safety measure to protect your equipment.
