Finding Joe

This film is life changing. It takes the work of Joseph Campbell, philosopher and mythologist, and brings it to the viewer by not only sharing his work and research regarding mythical stories, religious heroes and figures, and modern day heroes we see in films and books throughout the world in all cultures, but by weaving this knowledge into a story throughout the film that helps magnify and clarify the points being made. It challenges the listener to take control of their own life or accept what happens by seeking to understand oneself, and by embarking on "The Hero's Journey" within; through self acceptance, accepting difficulties in life, learning from them and making the best of these challenges, then foraging a path that is meaningful and lines up with one's inner bliss and values, and finally returning to others to share what you learned.I found I enjoyed this film more each time I watched it. This film has no age barrier, as the Hero's Journey is a lifelong process - a series of journeys that are all an expression of each individual, woven together to teach many life lessons to others around us, and to encourage others to find their own path in life. Each of our journeys is different, yet the road map or the way to get through your journey is the same for everyone. First, you are separated from a reality you know, whether by choice or not, second, you are initiated into a new reality, finally, after living out your journey and finding your way through challenges, you return to share your story and experience, with others. The work in this film is profound and deep, and could be criticized by people who look at security and the societal view of Western perspectives of success as more important than inner joy and happiness, and may also be criticized as being "for the dreamer". But, as I see it, our life on earth is very limited, and LIFE IS NOT A DRESS REHEARSAL. The sooner we realize this, and live life through our own Hero's Journeys, the sooner we will be uplifted and realize that we each can follow our dreams and we can all find our own happiness and meaning in life. Seriously, security and money are not the way to get these true gems out of life. Discover yourself through this film!

This movie came to me at a very auspicious time. I'm not even sure I know why I ordered it. I just did. I think I was hoping for something to inspire me or perk me up as I move forward with the difficult task of finding a new job. At midlife, I find I'm one of the many Americans whose been laid off of work due to corporate restructuring. I consider myself to be a positive person, but it's been a tough journey.The day that this movie arrived, I had just come home from an interview in another state and was exhausted, road weary, and depressed due to the sudden realization that I just can't work at another corporation, doing the work that I have always done. It was killing me, but I still need to earn a living. What am I going to do?? A definite low point.That night I watched this movie. Honestly, I really couldn't focus on it too much because I was so tired, but something in me was waking up. I had a glimmer of hope. So I watched it again in the morning, caught a few more nuggets of truth, and the inspiration I was hoping for hit. Big time!I've watched this movie a couple of more times since that night. Each time I catch something I hadn't caught before. It's been helping me a lot to understand where I'm at in my own Hero's Journey and how to view my life as a whole from a different framework or perspective. And in that space, I found not only the solution, but an excitement and joy that I haven't felt for a long time. It helped me to reconnect with my bliss again and brought me back to my Self. And I couldn't be more grateful! Granted, I still need a job, but I have a different roadmap now. One that feels infinitely more authentic and exciting!If you find yourself at a crossroads and in need of direction or inspiration, I highly recommend this movie. It'll support you in finding what's true for you. For me, it truly was a Godsend that came at the right moment. Thank you, Pat and Pat, Inc. I wish I could give everyone involved in this movie a really big hug and thank them.

I lost my husband of 25 years marriage to cancer 8 years ago, and 3 years after that, my oldest son, age 27, to a random act of gun violence. I had to get rid of my plans several times, and it is hard to move on. But life is beautiful and Love over fear is The Way. As this title speaks to "the life we planned" and gives us hope for "the life that is waiting for us" it is particularly poignant for me, and I am here to say it is true. It takes courage to live in this insane society, and be a loving person but it has been done forever. This story helps reminds us of that and how to carry on. It is timeless, hopeful and straightforward. It reminds us of universal truths, that we may of not been told about in our cultures...and these truths apply to everyone, no matter who you are, whatever your circumstances are. I am grateful for stories like this out there to help us carry on. Enjoy.

Joseph Campbell writes about the battle within in all cultures around the world. Finding Joe is most supportive for anyone on a personal spiritual journey. The movie talks about the "dragon within" that we battle and to find out we are battling something within ourselves. Also the dragon episodes occur for each one of us a number of times in one's life. It would be helpful to know for someone meeting the challenges in life that it IS the "dragon" and you will get through it. Look for the personal growth after the up hovel or battle is done. you will meet up with battling the dragon whatever you call it whether you know it or not; whether you think you are on a spiritual journey or not. Very enlightening.
