Better than a Raspberry Pi

It’s a drop in replacement for a Raspberry Pi - ie it exactly fits the same case as a Pi 3. I use it for Kodi (not streaming). I ran Xbian on the Pi, but Le Potato uses Libreelec. I changed for one reason only: Le Potato can playback x265. Even the Pi 4 can’t do that. Converting things to x265 means I can have HD video but use way less space on my NAS. Winner all round. It was annoying to have to reload everything into the Libreelec database as I couldn’t see how to import from Xbian as the mount points are very different. But I probably needed to do that anyway as I was having database problems on the Pi.

Absolute Junk!

This SBC really looked the part during the cuurent dearth of pi products. Regrettably, similar to the KHADAS VIM2 boards, these flatter to deceive. Cut a long story short, the Ubuntu distro appears stable, however is so slow as to be unuseable, it is impossible to get the Raspbian lite image to connect to wifi (three differing dongles, from different manufacturers), the full Raspbian image looks absolutely brilliant however, the client doesn't remain stable for more than about 20 minutes before crashing; and the Armbian distro looks most promising, easily identifying and connecting to wifi etc., appears stable and quite responsive, however the VNC installation is quite untenable (regrettably not an exclusive problem for the Libre Board, the Khadas VIM2 VNC offering is not effective). Any replacement for a Raspberry Pi product should really be as useable- this is certainly NOT the case in my experience! Also, so much for free Prime returns, the only free option is via UPS which does not operate here! Poor show, once again Amazon!

Perfect for Kodi (CoreELEC)

Very good performance on CoreELEC. Dolby Vision / HDR in 4K without any problem. I love it.

Fit Raspberry Pi replacement

As the Raspberry Pi is largely unavailable at the moment, I needed a replacement that can run Octopi for my 3D print farm. This Potato unit works just fine for that purpose. It’s about as fast as my Pi3’s and hasn’t yet crashed or otherwise malfunctioned. Would recommend for this purpose.

If you're fed up waiting for the shortage of Pis to end

I bought my 2gb one from Amazon USA (cheaper even with shipping). I've configured it as a NextCloud server. Works well. There is a reasonable range of Distros available, including Raspian and Ubuntu.Main disadvantage is that the community support is nowhere near as extensive as the Pi's (I guess you could say this about the other alternative SBCs out there). For example, you can get it to boot from a USB but there is a different method and there were no step by step instructions so took a bit more effort to piece it together and a bit of perseverance (I added my process to their website).I believe their logical GPIO is a bit different to the Pi as well (I don't use them). Their site does have the mappings.Case as per the review above. PSU is the micro USB for Pi 3.Overall a good board at a price that is very affordable. I'd buy it again.
