X10 Pro: High-Speed Performance Backed by Real-World Testing
I recently purchased the X10 Pro for use with my MacBook Pro (M4 Pro chip), and I’m thoroughly impressed. Here’s a breakdown of my experience:System Setup: I’m running a 16-inch MacBook Pro (Space Black) equipped with the M4 Pro chip featuring a 14-core CPU, 20-core GPU, and 16-core Neural Engine, paired with 24GB unified memory and a 1TB SSD. My system also includes Thunderbolt 5 ports, HDMI, SDXC card slot, and MagSafe 3—a powerhouse configuration that provides excellent compatibility with high-speed external devices like the X10 Pro. These specs allowed me to fully leverage the drive’s capabilities during testing, ensuring accurate performance validation.Performance: The X10 Pro delivers exceptional speeds, meeting and even exceeding its advertised claims of 2100 MB/s read and 2000 MB/s write. Using Blackmagic Disk Speed Test, I observed write speeds of 2136 MB/s and read speeds of 2346 MB/s in optimized workloads like ProRes 422 HQ and Blackmagic RAW at 1080P HD resolutions. Real-time averages during general usage (as shown on the test’s odometer gauges) were around ~830 MB/s write and ~911 MB/s read, which still reflects solid performance under varied tasks.Usage and Setup: I ran my tests utilizing a 300GB partition created in Disk Utility, with the rest of the drive reserved for virtual machine partitions and Time Machine backups. In one backup, I transferred 51.17GB in just 7 minutes—a testament to this drive’s speed and reliability. For high-demand tasks like VMs and backups, the X10 Pro is a rock-solid performer.Heat Dissipation: During extended testing with Blackmagic Disk Speed Test (30 minutes), the drive became warm to the touch—noticeable but not alarming. The heat level is reasonable and well within expectations for a high-speed external drive. While it won’t double as a hand warmer on a freezing day, it performs efficiently without concerns about overheating.Included Cable: The drive comes with a USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-C to C cable, supporting speeds up to 10 Gbps on compatible devices. Full USB 3.2 Gen2 2x2 performance (up to 20 Gbps) requires a specific USB-C host port, which many devices—including my MacBook Pro—don’t support. Even so, the X10 Pro achieves excellent speeds with the bundled cable and setup.Final Thoughts: Overall, the X10 Pro lives up to its claims, offering fast and reliable performance for both general and specialized workloads. It’s a solid investment, and I’d highly recommend it to anyone in need of high-speed external storage, especially for demanding applications.

Very fast and perfectly reliable for nearly a year
I had a Samsung T7 Shield as a backup drive on our server, but wanted a second external SSD for my desktop (so could have two backup copies of all files). The Crucial X10 was supposed to be faster, so got it instead of another Samsung. Wow, was definitely faster, hitting its advertised speed. Backing up huge files was just so fast. Also, I have not noticed the X10 slowing down as the T7 does when backing up Gigs of files. Very happy, except I wish both drives were X10's. Using with Linux machines, and has been perfectly reliable being mounted continuously (i.e., in use) since June of 2024. Be aware that the drive itself is tiny, and its USB-C cable is short (likely to ensure max speed). Highly recommended.

Does not have hardware encryption and password protection as advertised
Full disclosure - I own a LOT of Micron stock, the company that owns Crucial, so I don't make this review lightly (I hope my stock doesn't get slammed). This product is advertised as having password protection with 256-bit AES hardware encryption, a feature that seems to be heavily promoted.IT DOES NOT!I purchased this product to replace a Sandisk Extreme Pro that is failing (yea - I bought one of Sandisk's defective drives and I am losing data now). The reason I picked the X10 is because, like the Sandisk, it has hardware encryption. After receiving the drive I couldn't find documentation on how to enable the password protection and hardware encryption.I contacted support and they acknowledged that it DOES NOT YET have these even though the features are advertised. They are still working on the software that goes with the hardware encryption. Product support asked that I PURCHASE a third-party software encryption tool and suggested WinMagic, Symantic, or McAfee, and that I use software encryption while I wait for Crucial to finish the software. Why should I have to purchase a third-party product to provide an advertised feature that doesn't exist, especially a third-party product that offers an inferior version of that feature (software vs hardware encryption).I found a post by someone with the previous, Crucial X9 model, who reported the same response from Crucial support over a year ago and they are still waiting for the software. I told Crucial support about this and asked if Crucial has been unable to deliver the software for the X9 in over a year, will Crucial be able to deliver the feature to me anytime soon? They could not answer, but they were very apologetic and suggested I simply return the drive to Amazon if I was unwilling to wait.Returning the product doesn't make up for false advertising!!!!I thought Crucial was a great company, Micron is a great company and has served me well as an investor, and Crucial seems to have great reviews, especially on the X10 (albeit mostly sponsored with buy now links), but to ship a product with an important advertised feature that doesn't exist is absurd. I am shocked that none of the reviews I checked mentioned that this feature doesn't work yet, and that many reviews touted this feature in their reporting. Did they actually review the product? There again, I guess that is what you get with reviews, even in major publications, that have that those buy now links.I simply wanted a hardware encrypted replacement for my failing Sandisk drive (I am not purchasing another Sandisk product) so I know my data is secure if the drive is lost. This product seems to be targeted to content creators, videographers, and photo journalist, and journalist (many of whom work in countries unfriendly to a free press).Journalists sometimes rely on encryption to save their lives and keep them out of jail. Content creators, videographers and photographers risk losing the rights to their work or their clients if their data is stolen. Why even promote this feature if it is unavailable?

Blazingly fast transfer speeds from android phone directly to ssd
I can't believe the transfer speed this SSD gives you while transferring files from a phone directly to the SSD, I purchased this while it was on sale for half off the 4 TB kind, and it is performed great, above my expectations, it has great functionality, with an app that helps you partition the Ssd, diagnose the Ssd, and turn on functions that I don't see available on other brands of ssds. So the ease of use is extremely efficient and I would say for $229 half off, this was well worth the money paid, as I go over my storage limit of 256 GB very often on my phone

Small size Fast speed
I am super surprised at the size of it. It’s only like smaller than half hand. But it can contain 4TB. Amazing product. And the speed is also super fast. So far I love it. Recommended!
