Perfect for WiFi router or Raspberry Pi

This Konnected UPS Backup Battery is in fact a slightly upgraded version of the GM322 mini UPS and the GM312 before it.I've owned a couple of GM322 for almost 5 years and they are still going strong. They powered my wifi router and smart home hub 24/7 straight and kicked in flawlessly on the occasional power outage, so if this Konnected shares the design and internals then it too is probably going to last for a long time. The Konnected introduces a few small and useful changes to the GM322 format: the addition of a wall mount bracket and two plastic raised feet at the bottom. Both of these really improve its usability since the original GM322 had a slightly curved shaped on both sides which made it wobble on a flat surface. There also seems to be an increase in the output current, so maybe the internals are upgraded too, but I can't test that. The only negative of the GM322 which is still present in the Konnected UPS is the fact that the LEDs are incredibly bright. During the day - no problem, but at night these can be very annoying. Of course, it depends where you install it. If installed in a cupboard or a rarely accessed space, then the LED can actually be a good thing and act as a night light of sorts. But in a bedroom or living room, you will definitely need to stick some black tape to cover the LED.As pointed out in the product description, the Konnected UPS has two outputs - a 12V barrel connector and a 5V USB plug that can be used at the same time.A lot of devices require 5V power: the Raspberry Pi, Philips Hue bridge, SmartThings hub, Nest cameras, small switches, are just some of the ones I personally use. However, some of these have a 5V *barrel* instead of a USB plug, but it's easy to convert the Konnected 5V USB-A output to a barrel plug with a USB to DC adapter cable. The USB-A 5V output can push 3 Amps or up to 15W, plenty of power for most devices. I've never seen a device that requires more than 3A at 5V.You can use a USB power splitter to power more than one device, just make sure that together they don't require more than the 3A the UPS is capable of.But the star of the show is the 12V barrel output. This is incredibly versatile and can output 2.5 Amps or up to 30W of total power. Most wifi routers will have a 12V barrel input so the UPS can be installed inline with those without any modifications (maybe just a DC barrel adapter). I tested this setup with my Vodafone Broadband router for a few years and it worked perfectly. But you can also find adapters to convert the 12V barrel output to just about anything: different barrel sizes, step-up and step-down voltage converters are also common. There are DC barrel splitters too if you wish to power more than one device. You can also find DC to USB-C PD modules that open up a whole new world of possibilities. For example I use one such DC to USB-C PD module (purchased from eBay, with a DC5525 barrel plug) with my new Eero Pro 6 WiFi router (which requires a USB-C PD 9V input) and the Konnected UPS can keep it going for at least 4 hours during a power cut.To make this a fully USB-C setup you can use a USB-C to DC 12V adapter cable and power the Konnected Mini UPS from any standard USB-C power adapter. I use a USB-C multiport charging station as a kind of Power Distribution Unit for all my gadgets with an appropriate USB-C to DC 9V/12V/15V/20V adapter cable when needed.Which makes me wonder why we don't yet have a version of this MiniUPS that is entirely USB-C, both for input and output. How long this Konnected Mini UPS will last in the event of power outage really depends on the load (i.e. what devices you connect to it and how many). A WiFi router will draw a fair bit more power and you should expect the UPS to last up to 4 hours. A Raspberry Pi or a Philips Hue bridge use very little power and in my tests lasted for more than 8 hours. So it depends...But you can daisy chain these mini UPS and extend the time they last. I use two of them daisy chained and it works very well, but do make sure that the device you are powering does not draw close to the upper current limit since there won't be enough current left to charge the battery once the mains power is restored, which can cause some issues or even fail to power your device at all.The battery pack inside these Konnected UPS is easily accessible and in theory user replaceable – the battery cover on the bottom pops out relatively easy (see attached picture), but I was not able to find this particular 3 cell battery pack and connector to purchase as a replacement. Please be aware that DC barrel plugs comes in many varieties, some of which are difficult to tell apart. The most common in my experience is the 5521, or 5.5mm outer diameter and 2.1mm diameter of the inner pin, which is virtually indistinguishable from the 5525, or the one with a 2.5mm inner diameter. The Konnected UPS uses the 5521 plug for input and the 5525 for output. This is a clever design choice since the 5525 male plug should fit the 5521 female receptacle, though with a less firm grip, so you should be able to use it with both 5521 and 5525 devices and power adapters. You should double check what your device requires, but various DC barrel adapters or cables can be purchased very cheaply.

Trully impressive device

I purchased the Konnected UPS Backup Battery (12V) to power my CityFibre ONT, which is the Calix GigaPoint 801Gv2 model that requires 12v and 1.5 amps. I already had a UPS that powered the rest of my hardware, but I needed a separate battery for my ONT because it was located in a different part of the house. The battery was easy to set up. I simply unplugged the existing power supply from the ONT and plugged it into the DC IN port on the battery. Then with the included cable was then used to connect the DC OUT port to the ONT. After connecting both cables, the battery started charging immediately, and my internet connection was restored. The battery is small and lightweight, making it easy to attach to the wall with the included screw or velcro. It doesn't have any form of battery power level lights, but does have a very bright power LED which was that bright, that I had to use a small piece of black insulation tape to blank out the light. The charging light itself is still visable and only really present when its charging after a power outage but its still far dimmer then the main power LED.Runtime while powering the ONT seems to be greater then one hour which is when I reconnected my power as this is double my requirements.I would definitely recommend the Konnected UPS Backup Battery (12V) to anyone who needs a reliable way to keep their CityFibre ONT (Calix GigaPoint 801Gv2 model) powered during a power outage. This will provide at least one hour of usable power, but I suspect it will last much longer. I give it 5 out of 5 stars and thats rare for me to give a product that.

Works very well, lasted long as ups

Had an 6-7 hour blackout, was still going strong, very pleased, been using another DC ups which only lasted 2 hours.I would recommend this, for powering a modem all day

Does not fit BT hub

Reading up on this the most common use is to backup the WiFi router. Having the most common router in the UK you would expect this to fit or at least an adapter. Now left having to buy more to get this to work.

Disappointed that this only outputs 11.67 V which is nearly 3% low.

It seems stable but voltage is not really accurate enough. 12V or slightly over would have been more acceptable. It took 5 hours to charge first time.

Great battery

Easy to use working well

It works, but the capacity is FAR less than 7800mAh!

The battery pack works OK, and allows my router to run for a few hours during a power cut, but I do have a couple of issues:- Battery life is far less than anticipated because the specification is misleading. The pack does indeed contain a 7800mAh battery - but this has an output voltage of only 3.7V. Because the voltage is being multiplied up to 12V the actual capacity you'll see is reduced to just over 2000mAh. It's sneaky of the manufacturer to quote the 7800mAh figure!- Like many other UK reviewers the supplied power cable/plug doesn't fit my model of router. An adaptor should be supplied.

Just right for my needs....

Gives a generous (for its size) 4 hours back-up for my BT Hub 6.BUT it needs a 5.5mm x 3.0mm adaptor for the hub end.
