Quick, Easy Soil Moisture Info
I purchased this device to determine moisture content in my garden beds and patio planters for a more quantitative determination of watering needs. The good: It is quick and easy to use; it helps avoid over or under watering, and does not require batteries. I like having the analog meter readout which gives me a better feel for the range of moisture levels rather than a digital readout of wet or dry. Light intensity and pH measurements are also available, selected using a switch. I don't find these particularly necessary and rarely use them, though it is handy to have the ability to check soil pH; again levels are read out using the analog meter. A caution: If the soil is hard, it can be difficult to insert the probes and if too much force is used, I suspect the housing, which feels a bit flimsy, could be damaged or the probes bent, so in my view it needs to be used carefully under these conditions. Overall, I am pleased with this purchase and would recommend it to others. I might pick up a backup or two, as they are not expensive.

Update to below review: The company immediately sent me a new meter and the second seems to work just fine. Maybe a bad one just slipped thru the quality control process.Product worked when first put into the soil but as soon as I pulled it out I noticed that one of the probe points must have remained in the soil. After one use, it because useless.I attribute this to poor quality or lack of quality control.I ordered this with same day delivery so that I could take it on a sales call this afternoon but I guess that won't happen.

So far so good
Seems to work great. I can’t really speak to accuracy because I would have had to check it against an accurate measure. Otherwise very easy to use.

Better than others
So far so good! I purchased to replace my last moisture only and this is much more accurate. The soil pH test was my intrigue and find that it shows the same as my soil test kit. I did notice movement to levels of alkalinity in spots so it is working. Explains my plants needing more acidic soil to survive. Good product for use on my outdoor work!
