Important lessons for all of us

This small book is packed with profound lessons about how to live life in the moment and has great relevance beyond the training of novice Buddhist monks and nuns. For example, the usage of many gathas are presented, i.e., "short verses to recite during daily activities to help us return to mindfulness," such as "Feelings come and go, like clouds in a windy sky. Conscious breathing, is my anchor." There are many other gems in this book, i.e., "The most precious gift you can offer your family is your own peace and insight." I do not know of another book that is as profound as it is concise in its presentation. Thich Nhat Hanh is a treasure for us all.

A Monastic Basic Training Manual

This is a "Basic Training" handbook for young monastics. A lot of what is shared are common courtesies that one would normally gain in a functional family system. It is rounded out by standards that should be followed between a mentor and disciple.

Excellent and comprehensive introduction to monastic life

Stepping Into Freedom provides, as I can understand it, and excellent primer into monastic life within the Thich Nhat Hanh tradition for aspirants or anyone.
