Works as specified, not sure if I need the LNA

This performs pretty much as the datasheet that Nooelec publish. Gain is high, and the passband follows what they say. It's very sharp on the lower side, providing strong attenuation to airband and FM broadcast, but rolls off more gently on the other side, still allowing some of the very strong 153MHz pager signals through.Realistically, I'm not sure the LNA is needed. I get reasonable signal strength for NOAA satellites with just a V-dipole. The high gain means I'm brining up the noise as well as signal, and it's overwhelming rtlsdr dongles. Just a filter might work better for me, but your mileage may vary.

Still learning

I purchased this because it's a recommended product on RTLSDR forums and sites for downloading the weather satellite footage from the NOAA sites over using a generic wideband LNAI have yet to o gain a good image. This isn't the product it's just me because I'm relatively new and still learning. The sawbird filter has an adaptive draw I wasn't powering mine through a USB socket or dc jack I used a bench power supplyInitially I had the voltage set as 4.5v however I discovered this was actually too much ( but within range) and it wasn't applying much gainI reduced the voltage down to 3v and it's usage went to 0.35A and then it got about 30db gain in signalSo it does work. However I need to take my equipment outside and add grounding straps because I'm getting a lot of electrical interferenceI also need to bukd a better aerial. Setup filters properly find the right station etc etc

Well built device

This filter has a feel of quality about it and it has helped improve the NOAA weather images I can receive using a simple horizontal V aerial. Works best with the filter located at the aerial and powered by a biased T.

Dont bother with it. Actually made the Signal worse

I started this hobby with just the sdr and a dipole, it worked great producing incredible NOAA APT images. I thought using this sawbird would make them even better. So i bought it, hooked it up probably, and what did i see?I saw nothing on the waterfall, i removed it from the setup and it was back to normal. It actually makes the signal worse!!!Investigating the SAWBIRD online i found many many people with the same results.I also found that a majority of users reported that i did help, though not much, and from 1 week to 1 month after using it, it would just die.Im not sure on the electronic technicalities inside but many people found that it has 2 flaws.

NOAA weather satellite 137.5MHz

Does what it says, I have my RTL - SDR NSDR SMArt (black) on automatic gain -10 with a DIY RQFH Antenna (Reasonate Quantifilar Helex Antenna) running Raspberry Pi NOAA Weather Satellite Receiver by haslettj instructions on Instructables. It's a well worth project, and the end results speak for themselves.Already ordered the NooElec SAWbird+ GOES - Premium SAW Filter & Cascaded Ultra-Low Noise LNA Module for NOAA (GOES/LRIT/HRIT) Applications. 1688MHz Center Frequency to complement the NESDR SMArt XTR (silver), for the next satellite educational project, just need to get a Grid Parabolic Dish Antenna, which seems a bit difficult to get here in the UK for a decent price.

Good product

Did make a different. When was recording NOAA satellites (NOAA 15, NOOA 18 and NOAA 19) without LNA module I used to get 3 - 4 good images per week. When I connected this I’m getting 4 - 5 good images a day. It does need DC block. I’m using double cross antenna in a loft.

Not for me

Improves reception of NOAA 15 somewhat but does very little to eliminate pager signals or any other QRM caused by heavy radio traffic in my area of the UK which affects NOAA 18 & 19. Tests proved lowering the antenna and using broadband LNA much more affective.Item returned.

Did not last long.!

Overheated and never came back on.There is no led showing, psu has been checked and verified, no luck .Tried to contact NooElec, no luck at the moment.Lasted about 2-3 Months, was not really impressed then , even more not impressed. Can'e believe I spent nearly £50 on an LNA for 3 months use.Very dissapointed, I will be looking elsewhere for a more reliable device, waste of my hard earned cash.Research first before you buy, buy one if you have to, other than that, forget it.
