VTech CS6649 DECT 6.0 Expandable Corded/Cordless Phone with Answering System and Caller ID/Call Waiting, Silver/Black with 1 Handset

Got this to replace a cordless setup that works with a fax machine (yes, really) but was getting old. The corded base with answering machine keeps the phone from wandering (and getting lost until the battery dies) but has decent cord length (and you can always buy a longer cord). The cordless extension is fantastic for our home since the ideal spot for the second unit wasn't near a phone jack. This unit came with the two-wire phone cord so it worked with our all-in-one printer out of the box with no additional cords to buy. Buttons are large and easy to read. Setup was simple. The ring tone is not piercing or shrill so even at a high volume it's not annoying.

This is actually a very nice set. I’ve installed these phones in three of our restaurants. Up to now, it’s been extremely frustrating to find a landline phone that you can hear anything on in the noisy environment of a restaurant. It used to be that there was nothing more reliable than a landline phone. They were solidly built and the old advertisements about being able to hear a pin drop were actually true—whereas with old style cellphones, you were lucky to get through a call without it dropping, let alone hear what anyone was saying. However, in recent years, so many people have switched to smartphones exclusively that phone manufacturers are saying “to heck with it” and not bothering produce any landline phones that are even usable. Typically, the components are so cheap and flimsy, you’d do just as well to wire up an aluminum can and try to talk to your customers on it. This is a problem for the millions of businesses that still rely on good old fashioned landlines to operate—especially in areas such as ours where alternative mediums such as VOIP (Voice Over Internet Phone) systems are impractical due to limited bandwidth. Some of us still need a good old fashioned landline phone that actually works. I haven’t found any modern landline phone that sounds as crystal clear as they used to, but this one comes a lot closer. And having a linked wireless handset is a nice feature. A stationary phone to use at your desk and a wireless to walk around with. I recommend it.

I bought this because I'm a property manager of a self storage facility, and my office is attached to the house but I can't go into the office from my house. I wanted a phone that I could have in the office and my relief manager who is a senior likes the handheld corded handset, I use the handset and put it in my house since it's on the same Wi-Fi network and it's wonderful easy to set up easy to use and quality made

In January of this year I upgraded to AT&T VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol), and some of the phone systems that are specifically made for VOIP are twice the price of this VTech phone system! My Mom had many VTech phones, so I was assured of the quality of their phones already. This phone system is packed with many features that makes this an amazing buy! Here are just a few of them: You can set up your own message or use a prerecorded message for your answering machine, you can shut off the answering machine or turn it on with one click of a button. When you are out for the day and come home, if you have any messages you will see a flashing light on the base to let you know. You can shut off the ringer completely, raise and lower the volume of the ringer, and you can even program this phone to shut off for many hours and have it turn on again automatically. It has that all important feature, "FIND HANDSET," for those of us who are sometimes misplacing our cordless phones and end up spending valuable time searching for it. It also has a mute button on the base as well as on the handset.The buttons (as well as the letters and numbers on them) are nice and big so that you can immediately see what buttons you need to push, which makes is a great choice for older people or anyone with poor vision. Although the buttons on the base do not light up, the buttons on the handset do. The sound quality is excellent! No static whatsoever like I experienced with my landline phones!I chose to purchase this particular phone because it has a speaker phone option on the base, as well as on the cordless phone that comes with this system, which makes it so much nicer when someone calls and you are trying to do the dishes, etc. I also like the fact that the base comes with a corded phone for those times when you want your conversations to be more private. For those of you who do not have a cell phone or rarely use one, this VTech Phone System is a great choice for you, as well!This phone system is very easy to set up and I like how the screen on the base is on an angle which makes it easy for you to see who is calling if you have your phone on your desk like I do. This VTech phone system is one of the best purchases that I have made on Amazon so far, and definitely the best digital phone system that I have ever owned! I highly recommend it!

I got this for my office- works really well for something simple, answering machine, caller ID. My only gripe is that the hand piece is super light so it sorta slips around when you hang it up. I don't know if that means its cheaply made or perhaps to update on how heavy the hand piece used to be back in the day- but its too light now if you ask me.Update: Ironically a few days after I left this I couldn't hear people on the other end and they couldn't hear me, was told by the phone company it was probably our headset. So, it was good for just over a year...?UPDATE: Its definitely the phone. Had the phone company come out and check our lines as well as plugging it into a different phone and it worked. The base and the handset both have static and its hard to hear and I feel like I'm yelling into the phone for people on the other end to hear me. Its also so soft that when people try to leave messages it cuts them off thinking no one is talking. VERY unfortunate, I actually liked this phone but it seems its lifespan is not long.
