Since the return process allows but something like 200 characters
I have mixed feelings about rating products that are improperly listed on Amazon. How can I when they don't fit?I believe there should be an option where rather than rating product on its merits, as the "star system" is intended to do, Amazon should have way for a buyer to point out as grievous a mistake such as this one because otherwise, the listing will never be corrected, and customers as myself that have come to trust Amazon purchase them only to find to find out as I did, that there is absolutely no way that these tips fit the vehicle.Since the return process allows but something like 200 characters, there isn't much more one can say than "they don't fit"; and no one else has the benefit of that information so the listing never changes. There is one item in particular that I purchased over a year ago and ordered it three times before it became clear that it was incorrectly listed while they insisted it was not and assured me the next one would be the right one..Amazon as always was great to work with and in the end gave me credit for all three and told me to just keep them and not bother with returning them. Yet, the listing has yet to change and have to wonder how many wrong parts they have given away. But I am sure they are not going to give these exhaust tips away! Not at $70.00 a pop... According to Amazon and the information they have on my vehicles under the "My Garage" option, they steadfastly asserts that they will fit; yet I have taken the car to three dealers and unarguably the best two muffler shops in the state and not one said they would remotely work and refused to even attempt to install them. When they all showed me why, it was more than clear and have since requested for a refund. These are not an exhaust system, but rather exhaust tips. Naturally, if you hack your exhaust system enough and take off complete sections of the existing exhaust; with a pipe bender, some lengths of exhaust pipe and some decent welds, I suppose you can fit them. However, if that were the approach necessary, then any set of tips "will work" on any car.Except in my case they still would not fit properly because the rear of the vehicle has a contour designed in the lower valance where the current tips come through and the opening is about 3 inches too narrow' As a result, the tips would have to protrude underneath the valance and down towards the road. Never mind that they also would stick out the rear of the car close to a foot lest I wanted to remove both rear resonators all together. Or, in other words, it would look awful.I think it is also important to point out that these tips supposedly fit a 12 cylinder twin-turbo Mercedes Benz Coupe that had a sticker price in excess of $165,000.00. I think that the tips should fit and look consistently with rest of the vehicle without the need for me to destroy a stainless steel exhaust system that besides voiding the warranty, would entail cutting off two perfectly good stainless steel resonators that I am certain are part of an exhaust system designed to have them and when done I would be staring at close to $7,500.00 for a new system (Plus the labor) as the end result would be hideous at best.I am not sure where Amazon gets the information that would guarantee they and their customers can rely on the accuracy of the listing, or who is ultimately responsible for ascertaining the accuracy of the description and fitment of the parts is indeed correct. But I have to believe that vendor is involved. If so, a vendor specializing in exhaust components should know what really fits what. In my case the single thing that was correct, is the diameter of the pipe extending from the rear resonator. Again, that is a standard size and could fit many vehicles. Rather than stating adamantly that they are intended to fit on my car, they could save everyone a lot of time, effort and money by exercising due diligence in representing an item correctly. In retrospect, I suppose I should have known something was not right when I first received them as they are not made out of stainless steel like the rest of the exhaust system, except I believed that they would be held in place with clamps and it would be a matter of loosening the clamps, slide the originals off and clamping these in their place. However, that is not the case as the present tips are also made of stainless steel and are welded in place. How good is the product itself? I have no clue; they appear to well built, but before anyone can give them a fair rating, they need to ascertain what vehicles they actually fit. All I can say is that do not fit mine no matter what the listing indicates. And I am disappointed that they don't...I hope this will help other from falling in the same manhole I have.
