- In 1994, to commemorate the 300th Anniversary of the Bank of England, the Royal Mint released a Limited Issue Bank of England £2 Two Pound Proof Coin. The 1994 bears a new commemorative design celebrating the Tercentenary of the Bank of England. The Royal Charter creating the Bank of England was sealed on 27 July 1694 and the Bank opened for business shortly afterwards. These coins have been struck to proof quality using specially prepared dies and highly polished blanks.
